Sometimes called “Hong Kong streetfighting,” Wing Chun is also “The art of fighting without fighting.” It has evolved and adapted as it has been passed down from teacher to student over the years. The core principles of directness, practicality and efficiency remain the same.

Our teacher - Rai Swift - has been taught by some of the best Wing Chun coaches in the world. His training in Wing Chun has spanned 5 decades. He has taught in Ireland, South Korea, China and Manchester.

As a result of training, research and testing, we have refined and streamlined traditional versions of this famous martial art into a real world combat system for the 21st Century.

Our Wing Chun draws on the best traditional lineages, including:

Wong Shun Leung - the “King of talking hands”. Wong Shun Leung refined the “science of close range combat” and tested his Wing Chun. Coach Rai has trained with several of Wong Shun Leung’s students.

Joseph Cheng - the first person to teach Wing Chun openly in Europe, and former coach to the British Karate Team and the Saudi Royal Family.

and the Ip Brothers - Ip Man’s sons.

Our Wing Chun lineage is impeccable - in terms of training and exposure, we are second to none.

Our Wing Chun skill - our true lineage - speaks for itself. To train with us is to be a Wing Chun insider and embark on a journey to mastery.

Our training consists of:

  • Forms: reference guides and internal alchemy. The three hand forms, the wooden dummy form and weapons forms provide movement templates and develop different powers, co-ordination and optimal health.

  • Chi sao: 2 person drills that develop the ability to apply the concepts of directness and efficiency. Chi sao is a unique training method to Wing Chun that teaches us to absorb, borrow and redirect force, and improves co-ordination and timing.

  • Conditioning: strengthening and toughening the anatomical tools to weaponise the body.

We are an independent club founded on the principles of hard work and mutual respect. We regularly host elite guest instructors for seminars on different aspects of Wing Chun and related martial arts.

Testimonial:

"Given the rise of MMA, martial arts like Wing Chun are often dismissed as being outdated. If you train with Rai, you will quickly realise that his Wing Chun is anything but outdated - it is practical and lethal.

Rai has a passion for Wing Chun - he's hardworking and disciplined. He trains for several hours each day in the pursuit of effectiveness and excellence.

He's put his Wing Chun under the microscope, disected it, analysed it, tested it, refined it, and made it his own.

If you want to find out about the unique ideas and concepts that Wing Chun embodies, and you are willing to work hard, Rai will help you and inspire you.

I'd heard about Rai when I trained at another Wing Chun club. They told me that he'd lived in Hong Kong and trained with some of the best people. When I met him, I wasn't disappointed. I knew that I'd found what I'd been looking for - someone who is highly skilled, with a deep understanding of the system, who can actually use it"
